credit rating repair

Credit Files keep track of some very personal details, including current and previous addresses, electoral roll registration, and details of previous accounts, and whether any payments where missed.

On automated application systems your credit profile is compared to and average profile to determine the level of risk the company believes it is taking in providing you credit.

Due to the huge volumne of data these companies keep, mistakes are sometimes made.

There are numerous companies that offer credit rating repair services in the UK.

If you have a poor credit history you can be automatically turned down for many forms of credit, and it could be tempting to go to one of these companies.

In most cases it is easier and cheaper for you to get a copy of your credit file yourself.

If you are turned down for credit, you have the right to request a manual review and be informed if a credit scoring agency was used.

The two largest credit reference agencies in the UK are Experian and Equilfax. Rather than using a thirdparty company you can go directly to these agencies and request a copy of your credit file. You typically have to provide them previous address details and send a nominal fee of 1 or 2 pounds.

You can then review your file and see if there are any errors that may be causing lenders to turn down your applications.

Further details can be found at Experian and Equifax.
