credit card balance transfer

Transferring your credit card balance to a 0% offer is constantly talked by the money programs, and in the personal finance press.

Is it worth it, does it have any adverse effects?

Is it worth it?

Usually yes, card providers are willing to offer you a good deal to attract customers, and you benefit by paying no interest for a certain period on your balance transfer.

It's simple to apply online and you usually get an instant decision.

Any adverse effects?

Not really, the application will be logged on your credit file - so if it's turned down that's not a great entry on your file, and it'll be an additional personal creditor, but if you keep up the payments and do not simply increase your debt them there is no reason not to do it.

Balance Transfer Deals

At the time of writing the following companies were offering 0% balance transfers, with reasonable rates after the free period:

Barclaycard - 0% interest on balance transfers and all new purchases until 1st February 2005 - then 14.9% typical APR
