store cards vs credit cards

Having spent far too much over Christmas and the early "January" Sales, I thought I’d do a quick check of store card and credit card APR’s:

5 Shocking Store Cards

Card fromTypical APR
USC30.9%
Debenhams29.9%
RiverIsland29.9%
TopShop29.9%
House of Fraser29.3%

Most of these dropped a percentage point or two if you paid back via direct debit, and some offered points back etc if you made your instore purchase on their card. However those rates are amazing - it’ll take years to pay of the smallest of purchases just paying the minimum payment.

If you have a balance on any of those cards, transfering the balance to one of the cards below could save you a chunk of cash in 2005.

5 Great Credit Cards

ProviderBalance Transfer APRTypical APR
Marbles Credit Card 0%11.9%
LloydsTsb CreateCard 0%13.9%
Egg 0%14.9%
VirginMoney 0%15.9%
Morgan Stanley 0%17.9%

Well that’s a few options to pay less interest - and I’m sure checking out the best buy tables in the papers, or on moneyextra, or moneysupermarket you’ll be able to find a good deal to save your cash.
